Lorraine Rastorfer was awarded Master of Fine Arts (First Class Hons), 1992, from Auckland University and has exhibited nationally and internationally since. She has won numerous awards and grants for her painting including 2005 CoCA/Anthony Harper Contemporary Art Award, 2002 Art Waikato National Painting and Printmaking Award, 2007 Norsewear Art Awards (People's Choice), 1993 Ida Eise Painting Award, and 1992 Wallace Art Award (Runner-up). A regular award finalist, Rastorfer was a selected for the 2014 & 2015 Art National Contemporary Art Awards at Waikato Museum, and 2014/15/16 Parkin Drawing Prize. Her work is represented in many corporate and private collections in Japan, Australia, UK, USA, Austria and New Zealand.
Rastorfer lectured in Visual Arts (1997 - 2017) and has extensive experience in leadership of degree programmes and course design at tertiary institutions in NZ. At WelTec she lectured on the Bachelor of Creative Technologies and held the role of Senior Lecturer (Principal Academic Staff Member) and Programme Manager. Her teaching specialities include Painting and Drawing, Collaborative Practices, Professional Studies, Creative Enterprise, Critical Studies, Exhibition Studies and Interdisciplinary Studio Projects. Rastorfer has advanced skills in interdisciplinary curriculum development, as well as many years of event management, arts marketing, exhibition design and curating experience. Rastorfer is passionate about the potential of creative education programmes, supporting all learners, and connecting students with Industry. Rastorfer is PBRF funded in 2016 for her creative research, and is a 2020 Creative New Zealand Peer Assessor.
Rastorfer travelled widely over a seven year period prior to her studies and has been employed in Japan, Australia, France, England and Austria, where she also holds citizenship.
