Hello World

Kia ora

Exciting! This is my first blog ever. I've been an artist and educator since completing my Masters at Elam, in Auckland, in 1992. I have flinged and pushed a lot of coloured mud around, ranted and written about painting quite a lot since then and that's all going to come together HERE in this blog.

Firstly, painting, any relevance at all in this world? Resoundingly, YES! More about that to come.

The word...painting. You will notice there is 'pain' in painting, but it also sound
s like ..."panting" in a good way. What's it all about? I shall endeavour to enlighten or un-enlighten you all in this blog.

The artists heaven, the studio, some images;

Oh, next heaven...I am the painting and my clothes are the best painting I do:
That's enough for a virgin post, more to come. Probably rant most weeks (or days if I can't hold back!)

I would love to engage in conversations.

Kia ora back at you Lorraine! Cool first blog. I identify with you on the workbook (& groaning bookshelves) front. Yes it's a sci fi feeling when you open a page, & sketch/photo/writing/copy of an article - still speaks to you/has relevance. We know we've added skills & knowledge to the continuum, but there's a sense of standing outside the time portal, isn't there. Perhaps, because we are expressing ourselves so truthfully/making art that visualises our intuitive & thought out responses to life?
I can't load up any pix of my studio or work, in response to your great pix. But I totally get your excitement, though my painting is by markmaking on metal. I've been scraping away for hours on a huge oil container lid hanging in my lounge/studio wall. Red black & gunmetal painted with ash & sand by nature & others hands. This painted pendant (or land jewellery) that I am layering with words for the next generation. Time stands still when we are in the zone of meditation. Heaven on Earth.
Hope makes sense to others. J

Hi Lorraine, It is so nice to have a window on someone else's process, you've inspired me to tidy up my studio so I can take some photos, don't hold your breath though, might take a while.
